Students take part in International Women's Day march

First year NULC Academy for Theatre Arts students are researching and 'Her Naked Skin', a new play by Rebecca Lenkiewicz.

Set in London in 1913. Militancy in the Suffragette Movement is at its height. Thousands of women of all classes serve time in Holloway Prison in their fight to gain the vote. Amongst them is Lady Celia Cain who feels trapped by both the policies of the day and the shackles of a frustrating marriage. Inside, she meets a young seamstress, Eve Douglas, and her life spirals into chaos.

As part of their research the students made contact with Helen Pankhurst. Helen is the great-granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst and granddaughter of Sylvia Pankhurst, leaders in the British suffragette movement.

Helen invited the students to join her on a commemorative march in London on International Women's Day. The group had a very enjoyable day as guests of Helen and they can be seen photographed with her after the march.

Students visit Royal Exchange Theatre

NULC Theatre Arts students had a fantastic day at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester working with the cast and creative team for Cannibals. All of the students then watched the matinee performance and were complimented afterwards by the cast for being, “receptive and responsive” to the performance.
